Time tracking on projects
Available on the Business plan.
Labor is usually the biggest cost on a job — and the easiest to lose track of. The Time tab on every project keeps it honest.
Logging time
Click Log Time:
- Date — defaults to today
- Hours — in quarter-hour steps (0.25, 0.5, 0.75, …)
- Hourly Rate — pre-suggested from your rate on the project's Team tab, editable per entry
- Description — what the time went to
Entries are attributed to whoever logs them, and each one posts to the project feed automatically ("6h logged").
The running total
The Time tab header keeps a live total — "Total: 42 hrs · $3,150" — and that dollar figure is the labor component of the project's Total Cost. Every hour logged moves the profit number in real time.
Habits that pay off
- Log daily, not weekly. Reconstructed timesheets always undercount.
- Use real rates — what the hour costs you (wage + burden), not what you bill. The project's revenue side already captures billing; time entries are for cost truth.
- One entry per task beats one entry per day — the descriptions become a work record you can stand behind if a client questions the bill.
